Draft MCIC 2009 Issues List Ready For Your Review
In preparation for MCIC's 2008 Annual Meeting, members of MCIC's Science
and Technology Committee, Government Affairs Committee, and Safety
Committee met jointly August 21, 2008, and compiled a draft list of
priority issues that one or more members felt deserve the focus of
MCIC's efforts and resources during 2009. Now we need your help to
be sure we get it right.

Utilities Commission May Lose Two Members Two regulators are poised to resign
from the N.C. Utilities Commission, creating a void at the agency
as it faces key decisions on new nuclear power plants, solar energy
and conservation programs, The News & Observer reported
August 28, 2008.

Vacates Key EPA Rule Restricting Air Monitoring In Title V Permits
A federal appeals court Aug. 19, 2008, struck down an Environmental
Protection Agency rule that barred state and local regulators from
requiring sources to conduct more rigorous monitoring for air pollutants
than is required under an applicable federal regulation (Sierra Club
v. EPA).

TSCA Import-Export Web Site
The EPA announced Aug 27, 2008 a new Toxic Substances Control Act
(TSCA) Import-Export Web site that pulls together into one site a
comprehensive presentation of information on TSCA import and export
requirements that may apply to various chemicals and circumstances
under, among others, TSCA Sections 4, 5, 6, 8, 12 and 13. The site
