What
Is The School?
The Ninth Annual
North Carolina Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) School
is a unique forum for environmental, health and safety (EHS) professionals
to obtain individualized information about the latest issues affecting
their businesses in North Carolina.
At a single
location, the school offers seven classroom sessions addressing
current issues in air quality, water quality, hazardous waste, occupational
safety & health, and energy& sustainability.
Within each
session, there are three concurrent tracks with courses ranging
from very basic topics for those just starting out to advanced topics
for the more experienced attendee. Over 30 recognized experts on
complying with North Carolina’s environmental, health and
safety laws and regulations will be teaching the twenty-one classroom
sessions.
During the school,
attendees personalize their schedule by choosing any combination
of seven classroom courses to attend from the list of twenty-one
courses being offered. This unique training format allows each
attendee the flexibility to select a schedule tailored to his or
her current interests and needs.
The school format
is also ideal for attendees responsible for compliance with several
EHS laws or regulations or those simply seeking cross-training on
an unfamiliar EHS issue.
In addition
to the concurrent classroom courses, the school will begin with
a “Directors’ Forum” on Monday, August 23. This
general session will feature presentations by Division Directors
from NC DENR about the current and future activities of their divisions.
The school
will close on Tuesday, August 24 with a luncheon featuring Judy
Hoffman as our keynote speaker. Ms Hoffman is the author of "Keeping
Cool on the Hot Seat: Dealing Effectively with the Media in Times
of Crisis". She is the founder of JCH Enterprises <http://www.judyhoffman.com/index.shtml>
and understands being on the “hot seat.” For more than
16 years, she was the Manager of Public Affairs and the media spokesperson
for a chemical manufacturing company in New York State. The company
made a chemical with an objectionable odor noticeable to the human
nose at extremely low levels. Ms Hoffman will share with attendees
"The
Five Fatal Fiascos of Dealing with the Media" .
Between classes the attendees can visit the Exhibition Hall featuring
leading vendors offering a full range of EHS products and services
to check out and compare.
