Bio: Robin received her BS from NCSU in 2001 in Environmental Science: Ecology Concentration. She received her Masters in Environmental Toxicology, Chemistry and Risk Assessment from Duke University in 2003. Prior to returning to school she worked for 13 years in the Engineering arena designing piping systems for electric generating power plants, pulp and paper mills, schools, and wastewater treatment plants. Since graduating from Duke she have worked as a consultant for the EPA with various companies. She is currently employed with the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Air Quality, Toxics Protection Branch (NCDENR-DAQ-TPB

Bio: Kelly Boone founded and has spent the last four years running the Center for Sustainable Enterprise’s innovative and award winning student sustainability consulting program – CSE Consulting. The program is a natural extension of Kenan-Flagler Business School’s pioneering and critically acclaimed sustainable enterprise MBA curriculum. It provides rising second year MBA’s the opportunity to combine triple bottom line thinking and standard business analysis to supply world-class sustainability consulting to a variety of companies and enterprises. The program has delivered business specific actionable recommendations to eighteen select clients in its first three years of operation. Mr. Boone oversees all business development, operations, finance, and administration of CSE Consulting. A 2001 graduate of UNC’s Kenan-Flagler MBA program with concentrations in Sustainable Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, he won the MOOT CORP Global Business Plan competition in May 2001. After receiving his MBA, he led sustainable enterprise strategy, business planning, and market research as the Director of Business Development for Micell Technologies, a Research Triangle Park technology start-up. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Auburn University as well as a M.S. in Environmental Systems Engineering from Clemson University.

Bio: Lindsay Cook’s professional practice includes the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene and safety, indoor air quality, microbial contaminants, laboratory health and safety, ventilation, ergonomics, and noise. Bio: Mahesh Gundappa is Vice President of Engineering at Blue Source. Bio: Penny is the Associate Director of the Sector Policies and Programs Division (SPPD) at EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards, located in Research Triangle Park. Her Division is responsible for air emission regulations targeted at over 200 specific industries. These regulations control pollutants that affect ambient air quality, as well as toxic pollutants. Prior to assuming this position in February 2006, Penny was the Associate Director of the Emission Standards Division from 2003 to 2006, and prior to that, served as the Group Leader of the Organic Chemicals Group within the Emission Standards Division. Penny holds a Chemical Engineering degree from North Carolina State University.

Bio: Barry Maxwell the Manager of Safety Services for the EI Group, Inc.
headquartered in the Research Triangle Park, NC. Mr. Maxwell has sixteen
years of experience in developing and facilitating occupational safety,
environmental, and industrial hygiene programs for the fields of general
industry, construction, education, and healthcare. He has a Bachelor of

Bio: Michael "Mac" McNulty is an environmental, health and safety extension specialist at the North Carolina State University Industrail Extension Service.. He provides hazardous waste operations, emergency response and incident spill response education, training, exercise evaluations, and program development to North Carolina businesses and local, state and federal agencies. Over the past year, Mac provided initial and refresher training to the HazMat spill teams at manufacturers in Wilmington, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh, saving them $250 thousand to $5 million in insurance costs.

Bio: Greg Miller is Senior Manager of Facilities Engineering at bioMerieux, USA in Durham, North Carolina. The company, bioMerieux, is French-owned with approximately 6,000 employees worldwide and with about 500 employees at the Durham site. bioMérieux offers integrated solutions for combating healthcare-associated infections through comprehensive infection control programs in the areas of prevention, surveillance, and intervention. Bio: Mr. Palma has spent the past 11 years as a physical scientist with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Office of Air Quality Planning And Standards (OAQPS), Sector Based Assessment Group in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. His current responsibilities include playing a key role in many of the agencies current exposure and risk assessments including the Risk and Technology Review (RTR) and the National Air Toxic Assessments (NATA). In addition, Ted is part of the EPA=s air toxic monitoring steering committee that is overseeing the development of a national ambient air toxic monitoring network.
Prior to joining the USEPA, Mr. Palma, who is a certified consulting meteorologist, spent 17 years as an environmental consultant servicing both government and industrial based clients over a wide range of assignments in the air quality and meteorological sectors. Mr. Palma received his undergraduate degree in meteorology from the State University of New York at Oswego and his Masters degree, also in meteorology from Pennsylvania State University.

Bio: Joseph E. Plamondon, Ph.D., is a member of the frim of Bergeson & Campbell, P.C. and its consulting affiliates, The Acta Group, L.L.C. (Acta). He is the former Director of Regulatory Affairs for Consortium for Environmental Risk Management, LLC (CERM). Dr. Plamondon has a long and distinguished career, and is well known in the industrial chemical community. As Director of Regulatory Affairs for CERM, Dr. Plamondon was responsible for research and development and new product development activities. He also provided strategic preparation and submission of premanufacture notifications (PMN) designed to avoid Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Section 5(e) consent orders and other adverse regulations. Prior to joining CERM, Dr. Plamondon was a staff scientist at Keller and Heckman LLP. Dr. Plamondon also brings a wealth of experience from his prior positions with Akzonobel Chemicals, Inc, Technology Sciences Group Inc., and Rohm and Haas Company. Dr. Plamondon holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Loras College, an M.S. in bio-organic chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis. Dr. Plamondon has presented at many conferences and professional meetings, e.g., the American Chemistry Council’s Global Chemical Regulations Conference (Living with TSCA), among others, and has written extensively on chemical regulatory matters. His most recent article, “The DuPont TSCA Enforcement Action: Implications for the Chemical Industry,” was published in Environmental Quality Management.

Bio: Brian R. Sherman works as the Director of Ergonomic Services with The Ergonomics Center of North Carolina (ECNC) / North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. He has fourteen years professional working experience applying industrial engineering, human factors engineering and biomechanics concepts including ergonomics program development/application to the workplace. Bio: Nick Spates is Vice President of Modular Process Control, LLC (MPC), an energy management consultancy that works with large energy intensive manufacturing companies. MPC develops a proprietary Energy Management System that assists clients in reducing energy consumption and costs by 10-20 percent while reducing greenhouse gases; without the use of capital. MPC has worked with over 250 clients in multiple site locations over the last 27 years. MPC serves the chemical, petrochemical, paper, steel, metal castings, tires, glass and refining industries to name a few. Mr. Spates has been in the Energy Management Consulting field for the last 15 years. Bio: Bill Taylor has nearly 30 years of safety experience. He is a former director of safety and health programs in both industry and municipal government, with diverse safety and health managerial experience, including a concentration in ergonomics. He is the author of Effective Environmental, Health and Safety Management Using the Team Approach (2005, John Wiley & Sons) and has also published award-winning articles on ergonomics and training. For over 18 years with ELB & Associates and its successor companies, Bill assisted a variety of clients in manufacturing, services, construction, and the public sector by conducting simulated OSHA inspections, safety and OSHA compliance training, and developing policies and safety management systems. He has visited a large variety of plants and facilities throughout North America and overseas. He is past-president of the North Carolina Chapter of ASSE, the North Carolina Association of Local Government Employee Safety Officials and the regional safety council. His specialties include safety management systems, OSHA standards training, and audits.

Bio: Mr. Walker is Manager of Environmental and Engineering Services at EI. With more than 25 years of professional experience, Mr. Walker is an effective project manager and versatile technical supervisor. He serves as the corporate manager of the environmental division of EI, with personnel in offices in multiple states. The division services the industrial, utility and banking sectors with expertise in industrial environmental permitting and compliance, soil and groundwater contamination assessments and remediation, and environmental and engineering due diligence for property transactions. Mr. Walker’s client and project management experience involves all facets of industrial and hazardous waste remediation and management with particular emphasis on industrial wastewater treatment and groundwater remediation and permitting, including negotiations with state and local officials. Specific areas of competence include industrial waste water evaluation, characterization, reuse, treatment design, and permitting; groundwater treatment; leachate treatment; stormwater permitting and management; potable water treatment; underground storage tank (UST) management and remediation; regulatory compliance at the local, state and federal levels; facility siting and design; spill prevention, control and countermeasures (SPCC) plan development; Process Safety Management (PSM); environmental audits and assessments; and hazardous materials disposal and remediation.
